Why I do what I do... Hi There, my name is Amy Dinsdale. In my household I am the Cook, the cleaner, the laundress, the Mum and the wife. And this is my story... May 2017; I was sitting in a hospital bed waiting for the birth of my second child. To fill in the time I was browsing Facebook and saw a number posts from a friend of home cook banquets, breads, sweets, snacks and more. From what I could remember she was a full time shift worker, with a husband, his business to run, and two kids. I couldn't believe that someone with so many demands on their time could manage to cook all of this beautiful food. I had one child, one on the way, my husband worked full time, and I was working part time and spending a couple of days at home with my son, and I had been struggling to keep on top of basic things like laundry. I asked her how she was doing all of this, her answer; a Thermomix. After the birth of my daughter it became clear that I was struggling even more to balance the demands of being a mum, a wife, a cook, a cleaner and a laundress. I was trying to entertain my son, while nursing my daughter and trying to put food on the table. I hadn't even gone back to work yet. Nothing was being done well; we had more dirty clothes than clean, my son was screaming for my attention, and my daughter cried every time I put her down. I was toilet training my son, swapping my daughter to a bottle, and not sleeping very well. We were eating the same few dishes over and over, the meals were full of rice or pasta or potato, they had minimal other vegetables and were usually made using a packet or jar of some description because it was quick and easy. They were bland and boring. All this time the Thermomix was still in the back of my mind; taunting me. I knew that it would make my life easier. I knew it would mean more nutritious meals. It would mean more variety. It would mean saving money. It would mean I had more time for my children. it would mean I had more energy to put into my relationship with my husband. But he couldn't see it. All he saw was the price tag, all he saw was that I wanted to buy a machine to do all the things I could already do. It took me three months of research, and pestering before he finally gave in, before I convinced my husband that if he wanted a wife who had time and energy for the family, if he wanted a change from the same few dinners, if he wanted everyone in the house to have clean clothes at the same time, then it was time to invest in a Thermomix. With the help of my Thermomix I started cooking meals from scratch, and trying dishes I would never have dreamed of making. I made sauces and jams, yoghurt and breads. there were more vegetables and whole foods in our diet, and I suddenly had more energy and motivation. I was so excited to be cooking. I started saving money by making my own staples, I was able to adjust seasoning to suit our tastes, and reduce the heat of spices for my children. I started my daughter on solids that I made myself, meaning that it was cheaper than buying pre-made food, and I was able to work out what she liked by trying different combinations, and as she got older I could adjust the texture to suit her. When my daughter was 3 months old it was time to consider going back to work. I needed to have an income again, but I wanted to be at home with the kids, especially with the price of Childcare. My Thermomix Consultant could see how enthusiastic I was about the Thermomix, and had repeatedly suggested over the last three months that I should have a look at the business. It offered me an opportunity for an income with flexible hours, the ability to work around other commitments, training opportunities, a chance to meet new people, and best of all, a way of sharing my passion about cooking with Thermomix. Becoming a Thermomix consultant gave me the ability to return to my job two days a week instead of three, while still having the potential to earn the same amount, if not more. Now.... These days my passion is around cooking from scratch, using whole foods, and saving money along the way. Its about living more sustainably and reducing our impact on the environment. I’ve developed a love of gardening, not only because it lets me enjoy being outdoors in nature, but for the excitement of seeing things grow and for teaching my children where our food comes from. And at the end of the day I can use what we grow to supplement our weekly shopping with super fresh, home grown food that costs me next to nothing to grow.
